The Italian conductor Marco Alibrando (Messina, 1987) had his debut at the age of 24 in Florence and from that moment it has begun an increasingly intense career, conducting Rossini’s Adina at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, described by The New York Times as a “first-rate performance” and, subsequently, Duetti Amorosi at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and Delitto e Dovere at the Festival di Spoleto. Recently he was invited to assist Ivan Fischer for Falstaff.

Marco is the designate Music Director of VoceAllOpera starting from season 2021.

Upcoming events include concerts with Filarmonica di Rovereto for Settenovecento Festival conducting music by Stravinsky, Beethoven, Pergolesi and Zandonai, Il Tabarro for the opening season in Sassari and concerts with Orchestra dei Talenti Musicali della Fondazione CRT conducting music by Mozart and Beethoven. In the near future he will debut at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo conducting La cambiale di matrimonio, at the Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman) with the Orchestra dell’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala conducting Ahmed – The lion of the sea by Alberto Colla and C’era due volte il Barone Lamberto – a new opera, winner of the CompositoriAllOpera competition powered by VoceAllOpera in many Italians opera houses.

Marco is among the eighteen young conductors invited to the prestigious International Conducting Competition Premio Guido Cantelli who will take place in September 2020 in Torino and Novara with the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino.

With a naturally strong affinity for the repertoire from the early 20th century of Bartók, Stravinsky and Ravel, Marco conducted Bluebeard’s Castle in Milan with laVerdi Orchestra.

As the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Vittorio Emanuele di Messina he led many concerts, operas (La Bohème staged by Giorgio Bongiovanni) and ballets (Beethoven 6th symphony directed and choreographed by Micha Van Hoecke).

From the late 2014 to nowadays he was invited to conduct the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, Orchestra di Toscana Classica, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Orchestra del Teatro F. Cilea di Reggio Calabria, Delitto e Dovere by Alberto Colla at the Festival di Spoleto and at the Teatro Coccia di Novara, staged by Paolo Gavazzeni and Piero Maranghi (broadcasted by Sky Classica HD), Obiettivo Orchestra invited by Gianandrea Noseda (a project powered by Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino), Norma at the Teatro del Popolo di Castelfiorentino, Suor Angelica and Billy Budd (by Ghedini) at the Conservatorio  G. Verdi di Milano, La Cenerentola staged by Gianmaria Aliverta for VoceAllOpera, Beatrice di Tenda in Tenda, Rossini il buongustaio at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania and Beethoven’s ninth symphony at the Teatro F. Cilea di Reggio Calabria, La Maschera di Erato, Opera Show by Mario Acampa at the OGR di Torino (Fondazione CRT – Accademia Perosi). Lately he conducted Beethoven’s Eroica with Orchestra dei Talenti Musicali della Fondazione CRT at the OGR in Torino and in Biella, the New Year Concert in Messina starring Giuseppe Andaloro, L’Italiana in Algeri staged by Gianmaria Aliverta (VoceAllOpera – Milano). In july 2020 he recorded L’Anfora di Clio, the new Opera show by Mario Acampa.

On a more practical level, Marco worked as an assistant to Antonino Fogliani in many well-renown theaters. He was also assistant to Domingo Hindoyan and Giuliano Carella in Nancy.

Marco studied orchestral conducting with Gianandrea Noseda, Gianluigi Gelmetti (Accademia Chigiana di Siena), Vittorio Parisi, Lutz Köhler, Antonino Fogliani, Donato Renzetti, Romolo Gessi and Giuseppe Lanzetta. He is fundamentally a pianist, with a Bachelor degree from Messina, and then continued with his Masters in Orchestral Conducting and Composition, graduating with highest honors from the Conservatorio G. Verdi di Milano.
