BIOGRAPHY

Born in Barcelona into a family with a great musical tradition, he began studying music theory and piano at a very young age and sang in the white voice choir of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. At the age of 16 he began his singing studies directed by his father, the baritone Vicenç Esteve. He debuts as a tenor with the leading role in the zarzuela La Dolorosa. In 1993 he played the protagonist of the opera Marina and began singing zarzuela and opera in the most important theaters and concert halls in Spain.

He has won awards in the international singing competitions Francisco Alonso, Jaume Aragall, Eugenio Marco, Operalia, Ciudad de Logroño and Vall d’Uixó. At the Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland) he is awarded “The Gerard Arnhold Bursary” in 2003, awarded to a young performer for his performance in L’elisir d’amore.

He has sung at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, the Palau de la Música Catalana, Òpera a Catalunya, Òpera de Cambra de Catalunya, Perelada Festival, Oviedo Opera Festival, Málaga, Granada, Menorca, Tenerife, Teatro Principal de Palma of Mallorca, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, etc.

In 1998 he was invited by Plácido Domingo to perform L’ elisir d’ amore (Nemorino) at the Washington Opera. Outside of Spain he has also sung in France and Belgium with the French company En plein air singing, La Bohème and Madama Butterfly. Doña Francisquita at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse; in Italy at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari and the Comunale in Bologna with The Altarpiece of Maese Pedro, at the Teatro Rossini in Lugo and at the Teatro de Città di Castello with La Scala di seta.

He has performed with great figures of opera such as Josep Carreras, Jaume Aragall, Plácido Domingo, Joan Pons and Vicente Sardinero, among others. He has starred in zarzuelas such as Cançó d’amor i de guerra with V. Sardinero; Doña Francisquita directed by J. Tamayo; Luisa Fernanda, etc. and lyrical operas such as Rita, L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, La Traviata, Falstaff, La Bohème, Così fan tutte or The Barber of Seville.

Since 1998 she has sung among other titles: Salomé, Parsifal, Die Zauberflöte directed by Comediants, Turandot (Pong) directed by Nuria Espert, Sly with Josep Carreras, Otello, Maria del Carmen, Lohengrin, Il Trovatore, Die Zauberflöte at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; Don Gregorio and L’heure spagnole at the Wexford Festival Opera; Romeo et Juliette (Tybalt) at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville; The Witch (Thyme), Carmen with Carlos Álvarez and under the direction of Carlos Saura, Le Nozze di Figaro, Turandot directed by the Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige and directed by Zubin Mehta, Parsifal, a Puccini Gala under the direction of Plácido Domingo , The King who raged (Jeremías) directed by Emilio Sagi, Turandot with musical direction by Lorin Maazel, Prodana Nevesta, Carmen y Ariadne auf Naxos at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia; Don Gregorio again at the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano (Italy); La Bruja, Carmen, Tosca and Die Zauberflöte at the Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona; Orfeo in Palma de Mallorca in a staging of La Fura dels Baus; The Witch in Andratx; Madama Butterfly (Goro) at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón; The Superbarber of Seville from the Tricicle company for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, as he has been doing since 2003 throughout the Spanish territory; L’heure spanish at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Italy and at the Frankfurt Opera; Turandot in Guangzhou, China, again under the direction of Master Maazel; Susannah at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao; the world premiere of the opera Yo, Dalí at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid; Madama Butterfly at the Baluarte Auditorium; Turandot in Oviedo; Tosca, Carmen and Turandot at ABAO-Palacio Euskalduna; Il Tabarro at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; Andrea Chénier at the Peralada Festival; Otello at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo; Luisa Fernanda at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia; Norma at the Maestranza Theater; Otello at ABAO-Palacio Euskalduna, at the Peralada Festival and at the Liceu.

Among her recent and upcoming engagements, it is worth highlighting Butterfly at the Omán and Peralada opera houses (Goro), Francisquita and Manojo de rosas at the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Cardona and Ricardo), Pagliacci and Ariadne auf naxos at the Gran teatre de Liceu ( Beppe, Scaramuccio), Turandot (Pong) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Lithuanian National Opera, Boheme (Benoit) Royal Theater, among others.
