BIOGRAPHY
Praised by Opera News for her “impassioned singing”, Polish-American coloratura soprano made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the 2025/26 season as Amina in Rolando Villazón’s production of La Sonnambula. She sings Gilda with Ópera de Oviedo and later sings a recital of Wolf lieder with Rubén Fernández Aguirre in Cuenca as part of the Semana Religiosa de Cuenca. A frequent recitalist in Spain, Alexandra has also sung solo recitals with the Palau de la Música, the Sociedad de Conciertos de Alicante, the Lied Festival Life Victoria, and the Conciertos en la Cuevona de Ardines. Last season she was the featured soloist in a concert of Handel arias, including his Gloria HWV deest, with the Orquestra del Miracle, led by conductor and official pianist of La Sagrada Familia Juan de la Rubia.
A frequent collaborator with The Metropolitan Opera, she has covered in multiple productions over the past several years, including Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Gilda in Rigoletto in 24/25, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier in 23/24, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor in 22/23, among others. Other reputable covers include Gilda at the LA Opera for 24/25.
Recent roles include the title role in Manon with Ópera de Oviedo, the Queen of the Night with the Orquesta Filarmónica del Mediterráneo and the Washington National Opera, and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos with Wolf Trap Opera. For the 22/23 season she was also heard twice as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Exsultate jubilate with the Symphony in C, and later with The Artosphere Festival under the baton of Corrado Rovaris. She was the soprano soloist in Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen with Symphony in C, and sang the soprano soloist in Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music at Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphonic Ensemble.
Alexandra was scheduled to begin her 2020-21 season by joining the roster of The Metropolitan Opera to cover the role of Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (COVID19). She was also slated to be presented in multiple concert venues, including the Carnegie Hall Citywide Concert Series, a return to the Columbus Symphony for Haydn’s Creation, and a debut with the National Symphony Orchestra for Mahler’s 4th Symphony under Gianandrea Noseda. She made her debut in Poland in a New Year’s Eve gala with the Opera Bałtycka in Gdańsk, Poland. In the summer of 2021, Ms. Nowakowski returned to Wolf Trap Opera as Johanna in Sweeney Todd and La Fée in Viardot’s Cendrillon.
Nowakowski has performed recitals with the Carnegie Hall Citywide Concerts Series, Vocal Arts DC, the Brooklyn Art Song Society, the Embassy Series, the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum, and the Kosciuszko Foundation. She has made several orchestral debuts, including engagements with The Columbus Symphony, The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Bach Society Houston, and the National Symphony Orchestra (COVID19). As a recipient of the Beebe Fund fellowship, Alexandra spent time in Poland researching Polish music before recording her CD of all Polish music, Kraina. She is an alum of the Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera as well as the Academy of Vocal Arts, and also formed a part of the Atelier Lyrique at the Verbier Festival.
