Alexia Voulgaridou, critically acclaimed for her dazzling performances, is a regular guest at Europe’s most prestigious opera houses, concert halls and music festivals. She began her musical studies in Athens and specialized at the Music Conservatory in Munich under the guidance of Daphne Evangelatos, where she also participated in master classes with Astrid Varnay.

She made her professional debut at the Prinzregententheater in Munich as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Sir Colin Davis. Soon afterwards, she sang Sophie in a new August Everding’s production of Der Rosenkavalier at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Numerous other collaborations followed, including: Violetta in La Traviata; the three heroines in Les Contes d’Hoffmann; Marzelline in Fidelio; and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in Hannover, Munich, Darmstadt and Cologne. She obtained a great success at the Bregenz Festival as Mimì in La Bohème, then performing the same role in Munich and for her stage debut in Geneva. In Italy, she won extraordinary critical and popular acclaim for her Marguerite in Faust in Rome and for her first Anna Bolena at the Teatro Regio in Turin. She was invited to the Ravenna Festival for Faust and for concert performances of Mefistofele under the baton of Riccardo Muti, with whom she has also performed Verdi’s Requiem. She also performed Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Zurich under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst.

Ms. Voulgaridou began the 2009/10 Season as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra at the Grand Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. She was then heard as the title role in Verdi’s Luisa Miller at the Teatro Regio in Turin, as Marguerite in Faust at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and as Mimì at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. She returned to Hamburg as Nedda in I Pagliacci and in a new production of Faust. She performed Liu conducted by Lorin Maazel in China and Micaela at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and made her stage debut in Santiago de Chile in Simon Boccanegra.

Her recent and future projects include: her role debut of the title role in Madama Butterfly and Lucrezia in I Due Foscari in Hamburg; a new production of Carmen in Palermo; La Bohème at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; her stage debut in Stuttgart as Luisa Miller; and L’Amico Fritz (Suzel) in Trieste.

Highlights of the 2007/08 season are: her stage debut at the Staatsoper Berlin as Mimì opposite Jonas Kaufmann conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and her role debut in Hamburg as Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites (the production, conducted by Simone Young and directed by Nikolaus Lenhoff, was telecast live throughout Europe).
Other notable engagements have included: Anna Bolena in Palermo; Faust, Turandot under Zubin Mehta; Carmenconducted by Lorin Maazel and Luisa Miller opposite Marcelo Alvarez and conducted again by Lorin Maazel in Valencia; La Bohème at La Scala under Gustavo Dudamel, at the Royal Opera House in London (stage debut) and in Hamburg; Otello(Desdemona) in Hamburg; Massenet’s Manon (title role) in Milan; La Rondine (Magda) under Gianluigi Gelmetti in Sydney; and Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) in Bordeaux.
She has collaborated with such renowned conductors as Sir Colin Davis, Gustavo Dudamel, Nicola Luisotti, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Pinchas Steinberg and Franz Welser-Möst, to name but a few.

Her vast discography includes: DVD of La Bohème with the Opera House in Bregenz; album of opera arias with the Bayerisches Rundfunk under Nicola Luisotti for Arte Nova Classics Sony BMG; La Clemenza di Tito under Pinchas Steinberg for Sony BMG; DVD of Chen Kaige’s production of Turandot under Zubin Mehta, production awarded a Gramophone Magazine’s Editor’s Choice; DVD of Les Dialogues des Carmelites recorded in Hamburg under the baton of Simone Young, DVD of Madama Butterfly conducted by Alexander Joel in Hamburg and Tosca DVD conducted by Christian Badea in Sydney.

Ms. Voulgaridou earned outstanding reviews for her role of Blanche. Other roles in her developing repertoire include the title role in Thaïs, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette and the title rolein Suor Angelica.
