Cuban-American soprano Mónica Conesa is establishing herself in the world of opera. At 26, Mónica made her professional debut at the Verona Arena in the title role of Aida, under the direction of Maestro Marco Armiliato, becoming the youngest artist to make her debut in a leading role in the Arena’s history. The following season, she sang the title role of La Gioconda at the Verona Philharmonic Theatre, and subsequently returned to the Philharmonic Theatre as Aida. She also performed the title role in Dolores by Tomas Bretón at the 2023 Spanish Lyric Theatre Festival with the Oviedo Filarmonía. In 2024, she made her debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, with a concert alongside tenor Jorge de León.

In the summer of 2023, she returned to the Verona Arena in the title role of Aida and performed in concert with Maestro Riccardo Muti in Ravenna, Jerash, and Pompeii. That same season, she returned to the Ravenna Festival for the title role in Norma, also with Maestro Muti. In 2024, she made her US debut as Nedda in I Pagliacci with the Seattle Opera.

Ms. Conesa received first prize in the 2021 Fausto Ricci Prize Competition. Jury President José Carreras described her as “an extraordinary, theatrical, and confident voice.” That same year, she won first place in the prestigious Maria Caniglia International Singing Competition in Sulmona. In the summer of 2021, Mónica studied at the European Music Institute in Vienna with Maestro Francisco Ariaza and, shortly after, sang the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana with L’Accademia Nationale di Belcanto Italiano in Castelvetro di Modena.

Her recent and upcoming engagements include the debut of Nedda in I Pagliacci in Seattle; Tosca in Bonn; and Contessa in La Nozze di Figaro. in Shanghai and Turin. Her stage debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, as Rosario in Goyescas. She will tour Japan, sharing the stage with maestro Plácido Domingo. Mónica Conesa is currently under the tutelage of maestro Mauricio Trejo.
